I thought the camera work was too shaky (in other words I thought the camera work was the usual lazy crap we usually get nowadays in film and tv...did I say "lazy crap"? Oh, I'm sorry...I meant "stylized". ;oP To be clearer...it's not as devastatingly lazy and crap on that score as say, Man of Crap..I mean "Steel"...but it's still lazy-shak-cam).

The film itself, apart from that? There were about 5 moments during the first hour where I muttered to myself, "This is damn boring". YES the action is enjoyable...and has you on the edge of your seat...somewhat due to the lazy-shaky-cam, and your wanting to be able to follow the course of activities during the action more smoothly - yes, that's it...the real REASON you feel on the edge of your seat is 99% down to that, I'd say.

It DOES improve in the action stakes during the second hour. But ultimately, it's kinda stupid. A regular guy jumps from a 40th(ish) floor window (through skyscraper strength glass, without it being previously compromised with so much as a gunshot) and lands uninjured inside a helicopter...You know...the things that don't have any way for you to fall DOWNWARD into them and land safely, never mind without you getting sucked into the rotor blades, only to promptly get diced.

Now the VIOLENCE...and yes, I typed that in capitals for a reason. There is NO. WAY. that this film is suitable for kids. I was born in the UK, where perhaps our kids aren't raised on tv/film which is quite as violent as our American brethren, with our roughly equivalent ratings. Well, that's definitely changed since the ill conceived 12A rating, established in 2004. And I've seen how the (now useless - dear god of logic please replace them STAT!) BBFC have allowed the standards (and common $en$e) to progressively slip because of £$£$£$£$£....and THAT rating. Make no mistake, if you're from the UK and wonder (violence-wise) if this is a 15...YES...it is. Anybody who tells you otherwise is either a fool or a desensitised idiot. I know people say 15 rated films in the UK are like 18 rated films now...but seriously, this film truly is a proper 15 in terms of violence. Interestingly, I didn't notice any pointless use of the F word, a-la- latest X-Men movies. But the violence is frequently bloodier than you would like for a "kids film". Of course, it's not just the blood that makes the violence, nor the fact that the blood is caused by gunshot wounds, or physical blows, human on human. Any and all on screen violence and "gore" is accentuated by shaky-cam, accentuated by LOUD. PUNCTUATING. sound effects, and trippy sounds in the soundtrack. All in, this level of violence is just not acceptable for a comic book movie targeted (even partially) at kids. But let's be honest, it's targeted big time for kids...innit.

Sorry if it seemed that I went on a lot about that last point, but I felt it was a very important factor for the kids. I don't have any myself, I'm not religious (in case you wondered) lol. I just happen to care about the route our world's taking with regard to what we're cramming down the throats of kids these days. There's "real" and there's chasing the almighty dollar. There's not "sheltering them" as the sheep (I mean people) often say....then there's not showing any bloody common sense at all. And I'll leave it at that. The bottom line, is that movie theatres are struggling more than the overwhelmingly vast majority of people know. They don't want you to know that...
So if you ever found yourself wondering these past few years why standards of rating seem to have slipped so badly - be it within the MPAA or the BBFC - look no further for your reason.

Oh yes, and the New Cap suit sucks...badly...even Cap himself changes it back to the old suit...I kid you not...But not (sadly) till the last 45 minutes or so.

Re: ‘THE LOVED ONES’ movie review: Misogyny as entertainment?

Just know that someone saw this and it was appreciated!

Re: ‘THE ROAD’ movie review: in-depth analysis and book-to-film comparison.

This is one of the best books I read. Thanks for reading and commenting on my review.
You are absolutely %100 correct, it was a sleeper hold. For some reason on my first viewing I didn't see it this way. I must have been too excited at the time; as the second time I saw the movie (last night) it was clear I had made a mistake.
I corrected the review and sorry for the mistake I made.
Glad you liked the write up and the movie, and thanks for the feedback!!

Re: ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER’ Movie Review: The First True Adult Marvel Movie.

He didn't strangle him to death. It was a sleeper hold. In fact, I think he only killed one person in that sequence, and that was the guy that he kicked over the rail. And that's assuming he died. In REAL LIFE, he probably would have died. But this is a hyper-kinetic, surreal comic-book/superhero/sci-fi/action flick. Falcon lands after opening his shoot just feet from the ground without any injury, and should have shattered every bone in his legs. And the general rule of comics is always "no body, no death". So, yeah..
I love your assessment of this film, but that "death" you mention was no death.

Re: ‘THE LOVED ONES’ movie review: Misogyny as entertainment?

I'm sure you will never see this...seeing as though this was posted 3 years ago..but I have to tell you....That was an amazing and dead on post....You were articulate, intelligent, strong, thoughtful, deep, and full of class while for lack of better words....Handing someone their ass. I found the unsettling drones a really nice break from all the humanoid cyborgs with Microsoft Sam voices. So I guess you could add "robotics fetishists" to your list of people who might enjoy the film.

A.I. I need to point out that there´s no film, book or TV series completely original. So we are all seeing the same Good vs Evil stories, Love wins all stories etc. over and over again...I believe that when it comes to moviemaking the way you tell the story its more important than the story itself. So what if Oblivion 'drinks' from other sci-fi movies? Those sci-fi movies ripped off from other places...and we can continue till the bible or further. I think Oblivion its truly enjoyable, elegant and quite interesting for anyone who loves science fiction. We all hailed Star Wars, Star Trek and Company but if we study their roots we may find that they are not enterely original...Oblivion is not perfect but its not crap at all.

Re: Happy 30th Birthday ‘RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK!’

i worked at the paramount theater for the last 2 years of its life ...saw raiders over 600 times .....loved it .........i was payed to watch it ...gary

Re: ‘OBLIVION’ Movie Review: Amounts To Nothing More Than A Instagram Photo.

The "fact"

Re: ‘OBLIVION’ Movie Review: Amounts To Nothing More Than A Instagram Photo.

Dislike hahhaha...but loved the fack Longo the destroyer is back!

Re: GIVEAWAY: ‘WARM BODIES’ Ticket Giveaway! Thanks. He is 7 and has been insulin dependent since he his first birthday. Our lives are so hard as it is. If you could walk a way in our shoes you would have a different perspective. Having a child diagnosed with a chronic deadly illness that can take his life at any moment, living with discrimination (because no one is willing to take on the liabily of diabetes, in schools, after school sport, day care etc..) is so difficult beyond your understand.. AND JUST TO CLARIFY, DIABETES TYPE 1 (YOU KNOW THE ONE WHERE YOU HAVE TO INJECT OR DIE ON THE SPOT) HAS NEVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE PLANET BEEN CAUSED BY POOR LIFESTYLE CHOICES OR TO MUCH SUGAR. IT IS HOWEVER, CAUSED BY AN AUTO-IMMUNE REACTION IN THE BODY WHAT ATTACKS AND KILLS OFF ANY ABILITY TO PRODUCE INSULIN. You have perpetuated a lie that is resulting in thousands of children being bullied. Leslie Fossen put it nice when she said, " Why support research for a cure or better treatments if these people brought it on themselves? Why should school personnel provide daily help to prevent seizures, fainting or death in the short-term and blindness, kidney failure & chronic pain in the long-term if the kids could simply stop eating sugar? Why not assume they're lazy & lacking in self control when applying for anything if you don't know the facts? Type 1 is hard enough without having to battle these misconceptions every day." The consequences to arrogance of the media spreading lies goes far beyond hurt feelings and being offended! People don't reach out for the support they need because of the shame surrounding by the misunderstand and lies spread about diabetes. Our lives are hard enough. When did it become except able to poke fun at children fighting for their lives daily? There is no humor in it.

Re: INTERVIEW: TOMMY WIRKOLA And KEVIN MESSICK: Writer/Director and Producer of ‘HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS!’ – PART ONE

We give Hansel diabetes, you know, because of all the sugar he ate in the fairytale.

As a person with type 1 diabetes I didn't find the diabetes sub plot cute or clever. I do know that this film is a fairy tale and Wirkola was not making a documentary. But really, you don't get diabetes because you where force feed candy as a child. By playing on the MYTH that diabetes is caused solely by eating too much sugar (something that many reviewers of this film, and apparently the film makers themselves believe!) you're just spreading ignorance. Also by making Hansel insulin dependent, you reinforce the impression that this character is suffering from type 1 diabetes. Or that every person who injects insulin does so because of poor diet. Even if the film makers intended Hansel to have a form of type 2 diabetes (in a very lose sense sugar causes weight gain, weight gain can trigger type 2 diabetes) it's clear that the film makers had no idea what diabetes is and just used the idea of Hansel injecting as a "joke". It remarkably ignorant, don't people dealing with a chronic illness deserve better, than mockery and misinformation? I don't think diabetes should be off limits when it comes to humor. But people with diabetes are sick of being portrayed as having a self inflicted illness, that's only good for a lame punchline.

Wirkola go back to Nazi zombies they were more believable.

Re: CLOSED: GIVEAWAY: 5 X Double Passes To See ‘FLIGHT’ – The New Film Starring Denzel Washington And Directed By Robert Zemeckis!!
